TOM_fiber is a special furnace for measuring the mechanical high-temperature properties of fibres and fibre composite materials. Single filaments, fibre bundles and mini composites can be characterized via two optical axes in terms of tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and elongation at break as well as creep behaviour and fibre pullout. It facilitates the in-situ determination of fundamental characteristics for the characterization and evaluation of fibre composite materials.
The MoSi2-heated furnace with gastight muffle made of aluminium oxide can be operated up to a temperature of 1600 °C in air, inert gas or vacuum. The design complies to the highest demands on the furnace atmosphere and temperature precision up to 1600 °C. Heating rates range from 10 K/min to 1200 °C; 2 K/min 1200 – 1600 °C. The force transmission system provides tensile forces between 5 N and 200 N. The heated length is approx. 300 mm.
